No Dowry No Date

Glasgow City Council

‘No Dowry No Date’ is a short drama-documentary film exploring the subject of arranged marriage. It is an imaginary Asian version of the popular TV show 'Blind Date', and is used as a comic setting in which characters are created as Asian stereotypes. The finished film is an entertaining insight into this much misunderstood part of Asian culture.

The idea was originated by a group of 11-17 year old Glaswegian Asian girls, 'Girlz in Da Hood', a Glasgow City Council Cultural and Leisure Youth Services Group in Area 3. It is multi agency partnership work involving various agencies such as Glasgow Media Access Centre, GARA, UK First Light Initiative, Strathclyde Police, Council for British Pakistanis Scotland, South Yorkshire Police, Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Youth Services.
