The National University of Ireland Galway's College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies will soon announce its 2010 Phd fellowship scheme.
It is expected that a number of these will be tenable in the areas of Political Science and Sociology, and Women's Studies.
In particular, expressions of interest are welcome from students interested in the topics of Gender, Working and Globalisation. Themes include (but are not limited to) studies of workplace identity, feminist theorizing about work and employment, studies of gender and sexuality in contemporary workplaces, and studies of the body at work.
About the School: NUI Galway's School of Political Science and Sociology is dynamic, innovative and internationally recognised for research. It brings together an international, cross-disciplinary group of 40 academic staff members with diverse backgrounds in politics and sociology, as well as anthropology, business, community and international development, economics, social policy, social work, and women's and gender studies. In particular, the School is known for its research on Gender, Empowerment and Globalisation. This research cluster is committed to the development of gender-focused research across a range of issues and disciplines.
Current research investigates the operation of gendered power relations, gender inequalities, changing notions of gender identity, and the challenges of achieving women's empowerment in Ireland and beyond in a context of globalisation.
