Welsh Women's Aid policy briefing on services for male victims of domestic abuse

Wednesday, 7th April, 2010

Welsh Women's Aid has produced a new briefing on services for male victims of domestic abuse. The briefing has been produced with the input of several organisations which work with men, including Respect;  Men's Advice Line; The Dyn Project; Coalition on Men and Boys; Gemini, and Relate Cymru. It looks at:

  • Prevalence
  • The need for services to cater to men's specific needs, which may be very different to women's
  • The need to assess and screen men who present as victims
  • The need to retain single-sex services
  • Multi-agency responses
  • Do men require refuge?
  • Male GBT victims

The briefing has been distributed to all Welsh Women's Aid groups and key officials within the Welsh Assembly Government, with the overall aim of safeguarding women-only domestic abuse services and ensuring that all services are client-centred. We will also be distributing it to local authority commissioners.

Download the briefing below and contact WWA's Policy Officer, Hannah Austin: HannahAustin@welshwomensaid.org.uk for further information
