Seminar: Violence - an under researched public health problem

Monday, 6th September, 2010

Wed 29th Sept 12-1pm

Research Institutes, Level 3 Buchanan House, Glasgow Caledonian University, Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow, G4 0BA

Peter Donnelly is Professor of Public Health Medicine at the Bute Medical School, University of St Andrews.  His research priorities are in two general areas, the first of which is violence reduction. Peter is currently working with the Scottish Government, WHO, and the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit where he is the official evaluator of major violence reduction initiatives.  His other main research area involves evaluating practical means of reducing health inequalities and maximising positive health, particularly amongst young people.  This work is carried out through collaboration with policymakers and politicians at local, national and international level.  He was recently Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the Scottish Government, has been Director of Public Health in Scotland and Wales, and is an honorary consultant in Public Health Medicine.

The venue for each seminar will be the seminar room on level 3 Buchanan House (to the right after exiting the lift).  All are welcome to attend and there is no need to book a place - please just come along on the day.
