New Course: Exploring the Sexualisation of Culture and the Nomalisation of Commercial Sexual Exploitation

A new course is being piloted in December in the Highlands called “Exploring the Sexualisation of Culture and the Normalisation of Commercial Sexual Exploitation”.  The course is due to be rolled out across 2010 in the area through the local Training Consortium.  The specific aims and outcomes of the day are planned to be:
 
Aims
The aims of the “Sexualisation of Culture” day are for delegates to:

  • Understand how current culture normalises Commercial Sexual Exploitation
  • Compare the media image of Commercial Sexual Exploitation with the reality of prostitution, pornography and lap dancing
  • Identify opportunities for addressing the Sexualisation of Culture

Learning Outcomes
Delegates will be able to:

  • To challenge the concept of rigid gender roles within society
  • To illustrate the influence the media can have on our understanding of gender roles
  • To define commercial sexual exploitation
  • To discuss the ways that culture normalises commercial sexual exploitation
  • To illustrate the harm caused to society by commercial sexual exploitation
