National ‘Why Create a Drama?’ project and reports launch

Thursday, 6th May, 2010

Two new plays designed to raise awareness of domestic abuse among young Scots were launched in April. The plays have been written using materials from schools pupils and have been performed during a pilot in Scottish Schools.

An evaluation of the pilot found that the plays had been successful in changing pupil’s attitudes and building their confidence. One primary 5 pupil said ‘It’s given me more courage to stand up for myself’

The Scottish Government funded  plays were launched in an event hosted  by the National Children and Young People’s Network  and performed by Baldy Bane Theatre Company.  Adam Ingram, Minister for Children and Early Years spoke about the Governments ongoing commitment to tackling domestic abuse in Scotland.

At the event, two reports were launched: A Baseline Study of Domestic Asuse Prevention Acitivites in Seven Local Authorities in Scotland and an Evaluation of the theatre project. Read the reports below.

For further information on the event please contact Shona Bruce (Chair of national Children and Young People’s Network) 0141 952 4074 Shona.bruce@west-dunbarton.gov.uk
