Asylum Aid are seeking 200 endorsements for the Charter of Rights of Women Seeking Asylum to be presented to the Immigration Minister this autumn. They have received endorsements from organisations across the UK from the violence against women and equality sectors and are currently just short of 200 endorsements.
The Charter calls for the UK Border Agency to treat asylum seekers with fairness, dignity and respect. It specifically calls for equivalent standards of treatment and access to services as other UK women in similar circumstances. Asylum seeking women who have experienced violence or abuse do not currently receive the same support or treatment by the Crown Prosecution and Prison services.
