This free multi-agency seminar at the Bridge on the 25th November will launch the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women. The event is titled “In the Aftermath” and will explore what happens to people affected by abuse after they leave the abusive situation.
It is often assumed that leaving the abuse spells the end of danger, fear, distress and trauma for affected individuals, however for many this is not the case. The long–term implications for those affected by abuse can be significant; for example the presumption of contact for children where there has been domestic abuse can be extremely problematic and unsafe, while many survivors of traumatic events continue to experience significant difficulties in their lives that are often unrecognized or misunderstood by agencies trying to offer support.
