16 Days of Action in East Dunbartonshire

Monday, 7th December, 2009

East Dunbartonshire held our pre launch day on 24 November in order to have Michael Kaufman with us for the day. The morning presentation from him focused on men and women working together for change.

He was preceded by an S6 Pupil from one of our high schools, who presented a very emotional ten minute monologue called “The Letter Box” by Anne Marie Di Mambro. It is about a woman, beaten by her husband and locked outside of their flat, trying to reassure her upset seven year old through the letter box. We are now planning to have it filmed for further use.

In the afternoon a workshop was held with Michael Kaufmann and groups of young people from each of the high schools. All in all we ran 11 events throughout the 16 Days including “services for women” information days with complimentary therapy taster sessions, personal safety workshops, safety in the home/community sessions, presented by Strathclyde Police, Fire and Rescue and Community Safety officers and a promoting health and well being two day Art Project in school.

A poster competition was also held for secondary school pupils on Gender (in)equality and the winning entry will be used in future promotional materials. Report by Helen McGregor Domestic Abuse Prevention Worker
