Provides information, support, advice and refuge accommodation (if required) to women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse.
Work towards the end of violence against women, by tackling its root cause, which is gender inequality. Do this by:

  • Promoting women’s equality and children’s rights
  • Working with the East Lothian Violence Against Women Forum to develop, implement and monitor a local violence against women strategy
  • Providing DA training locally, under the auspices of the Lothian Violence Against Women Training Consortium

Services for:

Women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

Prevention work

Developing a proposal for a project to do prevention work with children and young people, as part of the outreach service.
All schools in East Lothian have the Zero Tolerance Respect programme. ELWA is working with the local VAW Forum to ensure that training for teachers to use this resource is widely available, as it is only presently used in one school.
The ELVAW Forum is presently working on a new VAW Strategy, which will include the 6 ‘Ps’ – prevention obviously being one.
A perpetrators programme (DA) should be available from EL Criminal Justice from 2010.
