To raise awareness of the cause, extent and impact of male violence against women, and to work for improved and consistent services for those affected by violence. Work includes:
Telephone helpline open to women who have experienced violence or whose children have been sexually abused, as well as family, friends and supporters of survivors of violence.
Public awareness, e.g. seminars, conferences, screen debates
Resources, e.g. information leaflets on extent and cause of violence, how to respond
Research, e.g. into attitudes of men who buy sex in prostitution
Talks, information sessions, training - both multi agency and in-house and work in schools / youth groups
National ‘Challenging Demand’ work focuses on the demand from men for sexually exploitative activities as the driving force behind prostitution and pornography
Month of Action Against Child Sexual Abuse - forum meets regularly to plan activities
16 Days of Action usually includes awareness / prevention activity
Activity is starting within community planning structures, e.g. networking, training
The Glasgow multi agency group on VAW has a prevention working group
Participants are asked to complete evaluation forms. For training, as resources allow, ask for pre and post self-assessment to gauge shifts in attitude / practice
